Lately, Donald Trump diehards have a ready response whenever liberals and never-Trump Republicans complain about Trump’s outrages and policy failures–“Why are you snowflakes so angry all the time?” To hear them talk, we just can’t handle all the winning we’ve seen in Trump’s tenure.
Gee, for all this time we thought it was because we actually expect our president to adhere to minimum standards of acceptable behavior. But if you believe one rabidly pro-Trump pastor, that’s not the real reason Trump’s foes get steamed whenever Trump acts like a boor either in person or on Twitter. No, no–it’s because those liberal and never-Trump snowflakes just can’t handle that we have a real man in the White House.
E. W. Jackson is pastor of Exodus Faith Ministries in Chesapeake, Virginia and the morning drive-time host on Urban Family Talk, a subsidiary of American Family Radio that caters to black conservatives. He is one of the more obnoxious members of a very exclusive club–black conservatives who are all in for Trump. Indeed, he’s gone on a number of tirades that would do Trump proud.
For instance, he would have us believe that Congressman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, a prominent member of “The Squad,” wasn’t really elected by Americans–even though she represents a Minneapolis-based district that is over 67 percent white. He’s also of the mind that Roy Moore’s depravities weren’t such a big deal because he was pursuing girls who were roughly the same age that Mary was when she conceived Jesus.
But even by those low standards, something Jackson said on Friday morning is a head-scratcher. On that morning’s edition of his show, “The Awakening,” Jackson offered a theory about why liberals pitch fits over Trump–they just can’t abide the fact that he is what a man should be. People for the American Way’s Right Wing Watch got a clip.
Jackson mused that most of the criticism Trump faces “has to do with his masculinity.” After all, he argued, “the left doesn’t like manhood” and is dreaming up new ways to “put manhood down.” To Jackson’s mind, Trump is just “too much of a man” for his foes’ liking, and Trump’s foes just can’t stand men who say, “Look, this is who I am. This is what I believe. You can like it or you can lump it, but here it is.”
Well, that’s interesting. So a real man revels in degrading women just because they’re famous? So a real man cheats on his first wife with the woman who would become his second wife, cheats on his second wife with the woman who is his current wife, and cheats on his third and current wife not long after she gives him a baby?
So a real man calls women who cross him “dog” and “horseface,” suggests that they’re having their period, or just had plastic surgery go awry? So a real man knowingly calls lawmakers of color “savages” and “human scum”? So a real man jokes about a Republican congressman body-slamming a journalist?
And on, and on, and on. It’s already been established that much of the deplorable world believes that those who believe men shouldn’t act like jerks are snowflakes at best and “cucks” at worst. But you don’t expect even a Trumpkin to be this blatant about it.
Here’s a newsflash, E. W. Real men don’t act or talk like this. And if you believe they do, we have to shudder at what you tell the members of your church–especially the women.
Jackson’s tirade is especially outrageous to me, since like Jackson, I’m black. With this screed, Jackson is perpetrating a long-standing stereotype that black men act like jerks who disrespect women at every turn. Indeed, Jackson seems to be taking a similar line to another rabid and obnoxious black Trumpkin pastor, Jesse Lee Peterson, who insists to all who will listen that Trump is a shining example of what a real man should be.
For all of the “winning” we’ve seen under Trump, is it worth it if calling out his boorish, racist and misogynistic behavior makes us “snowflakes”? Any real man knows the answer to that question–not just no, but hell no.
