It’s been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad winter for Jacob Wohl, the 22-year-old right-wing provocateur best known for giving 280-character ovations to Donald Trump’s more unhinged tweets. Already under fire for a comically inept attempt to frame Robert Mueller for sexual assault and attempting to create a massive botfarm to help his dear one win reelection, he has a new problem on his hands. It seems he used the picture of a Minneapolis realtor to create a fake death threat. Now that realtor is out for Wohl’s hide.
Last month, Wohl traveled to Minneapolis with fellow deplorable Laura Loomer in a misbegotten attempt to peddle conspiracy theories about Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, whose district centers around Minneapolis. They live-streamed most of their escapades via Periscope. Soon afterward, Wohl was booted off Twitter–and with it, Periscope–for openly boasting about creating fake Facebook and Twitter profiles for the 2020 campaign.
On Wednesday, Wohl and Loomer released the “fruits” of their labor–a documentary called “Importing Ilhan.” In it, Wohl and Loomer seem to look for ways to cram in as many conspiracy theories about Muslims as possible. Among other things, they claim that Minneapolis is overflowing with “no-go zones” for police, and that they were in mortal danger from the city’s Muslim community.
As part of the extraordinary evidence to support his extraordinary claim, Wohl showed a screenshot of a death threat he’d supposedly received on Twitter from someone named “Drake Holmes.” But Minneapolis-based freelance journalist Tony Webster discovered a red flag–the profile picture of the account that sent the supposed threat matches a profile that has already been flagged as a Wohl bot.
So we have Wohl making a false police report–and it’s captured in real-time. That would be enough in and of itself to land Wohl in some very hot water legally, especially given the attention focused on Jussie Smollett recently being exposed for lying about a bogus hate crime in Chicago. Minneapolis police have all the evidence Wohl gave to them, but have yet to release them–presumably because they are part of a criminal investigation.
But it turns out that there was a second crime captured here. The picture used for the bot Wohl used to send himself the death threat is that of a real person.
NBC News’ Ben Collins subsequently got in touch with that real estate agent, Aaron Delgado. Needless to say, he’s not happy about being roped into Wohl’s harebrained and depraved scheme.
By the close of business on Friday, Delgado had secured the services of high-profile attorney Michael Avenatti–who let it be known that he wants to draw blood.
“Outrageous conduct” is being extremely kind to it. From the looks of it, Wohl was trolling around for a picture to use for this “Holmes” bot–and just happened on Delgado’s picture. As a result, Delgado’s reputation–the main currency you have in real estate–was put at serious risk. Under the circumstances, the only question is how many zeroes would be in the damages.
Wohl’s fortunes seem to have gone straight downhill since he called a press conference at which one of Mueller’s “accusers” was due to take questions. However, the accuser never showed up. By then, the world knew that these claims were being advanced by a bogus private intelligence firm set up by Wohl himself. Moreover, the “accuser,” Carolyn Cass, told USA Today that Wohl had been deceiving her from the very beginning–and even went as far as docu-signing her name to the statement that purported to accuse Mueller of assaulting her.
So now Wohl potentially faces charges of fraud both at the federal level and in Minnesota, as well as two potential civil suits. And all because of his misguided desire to help his dear one make America great again.
Based on what we now know, Wohl is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with our political culture. He has absolutely no qualms about ruining innocent people’s lives for political gain. And now it’s very likely that Wohl’s own life and reputation will be destroyed before he turns 30. It will be what he deserves, and then some.
