Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is the only Democratic candidate for president, aside from the “Some Dudes” in the field, who has absolutely, positively disqualified herself from running. The congresswoman for all of Hawaii outside of inner Honolulu has so many moral blind spots that one wonders what drove her to run in the first place.
Let’s review. Gabbard is far too close for comfort to Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. She has documented ties with violent Hindu nationalists. She suggested that both Democrats and Republicans bear responsibility for a shutdown that Donald Trump himself declared he’d cause. Worst of all, she declared that WikiLeaks deserved to be applauded for helping bring about “necessary change”–and in the process, gave short shrift to the thousands of people who had their privacy trampled.
Simply put, Gabbard is not fit for office. But that in no way excuses the cheap shot directed at her by rabidly pro-Trump troll, provocateur and cosplay lawyer Jack Burkman on Sunday.
You may know Burkman as the sidekick for fellow deplorable super-troll Jacob Wohl. They have teamed up on a number of attempts to smear people who have dared to cross their dear one. Every single attempt has run aground.
Indeed, the only things they have gotten for their trouble are multiple federal and state criminal investigations. What makes their stunts even more egregious is that they seem to have few qualms about rooking innocent people into their schemes, thus potentially exposing them to criminal charges.
Most recently, Burkman and Wohl claimed to have evidence that Kamala Harris was having an extramarital affair–but it turned out the supposed accuser had been led to believe it was an audition for an upcoming television show. It was eerily reminiscent of how they tried to rook an innocent man into claiming he’d been sexually assaulted by Pete Buttigeg.
In other words, it has been amply established that Wohl and Burkman are some of the worst people in the world. But Burkman only added to that dubious distinction when he saw fit to join in on the recent kerfluffle over Gabbard supposedly being a Russian plant. To hear him talk, it didn’t matter, since Gabbard is already ineligible due to being childless.
Burkman, like his dear one, seems to have a unique ability to get a lot wrong in 280 characters or less. At best, these tweets were outrageously sexist. So any politician, especially a female one, who doesn’t have children shouldn’t even bother to run?
It also borders on being racist. While it may not have been his intention, Burkman was echoing a common trope among white supremacists and white nationalists that European civilization is on the brink because white people aren’t having enough kids. But even if it isn’t racist, when the best case is that this tirade was sexist, it’s not a good sign.
These tweets are also historically inaccurate. At least two presidents never had children–James K. Polk and James Buchanan. Indeed, Buchanan is the only president to have died a bachelor.
Whatever you may think about Gabbard, these tweets by Burkman should be called out for what they are–unwarranted cheap shots. There is only one appropriate response to this sort of garbage.
If you look at Burkman’s Twitter feed, you’ll see that he often gets ratioed, and bigly. But it’s usually warranted, and definitely so in this case. Let Burkman have it on Facebook as well.
