Trump seems to start every morning by throwing a tantrum about something or other. The size and scope of the tantrums have a lot to do with the size and scope of the latest bombshell that’s about to hit. (Can you say “di-ver-sion?”) Either that, or the size and scope of his latest screw-up.
Today’s tantrum probably has more to do with the latter, in which he totally blew it in his response to John McCain’s death.
Or it could be in response to the various criminal investigations edging closer to the Oval (or, in Trump’s case, Offal) Office.
Whatever the cause, Trump has expanded his daffy-nition of “fake news” to include Google’s search engine algorithms.
The problem, as seen through Trump’s narcissistically tinted eyeballs, is that the search engine results are not fawning over him or his “Bubba Tudum” base.
I’ll let the “Twit-in-Chief” state his case:
Politically Biased Search Engine Algorithms?
I won’t bore you with the technical details of Google’s search engine algorithms, primarily because I don’t know them. But then, either does Trump. However, since I work in the interweb, I do know, in general terms, how search engines do their voodoo.
Search engines, like Google’s, look for key words, tags, and categories, among other targets. Placement is also affected by position purchasing. (That’s one way Google makes its money.) This is why certain sites usually show up on page 1 and others on page 693.
What Google doesn’t have, is a political polarity algorithm. (Not sure about other search engines, since I don’t use them.)
Believe me, if there was such an algorithm, it would have been leaked long ago and Fox would have been blasting it 24/7. (Unless, of course, it was biased in favor of Bullshit Mtn’s troglodyte audience.)
There is some controversy as to where Trump got this idea of Google bias. I mean, lets face it, Trump is NOT a fountain of original ideas!
From Whence It Came?
Is Google manipulating its algorithm to prioritize left-leaning news outlets in their coverage of President Trump?
PJ Media (Originally, Pajamas Media. I kid you not!) lurks a bit to the right of Ghenhis Khan.
My only problem with this theory is that it would require Trump to read, which by a number of accounts, isn’t his favorite thing to do.
On the other hand, Matthew Gertz at Media Matters thinks it may that delightful duo of sappy silliness, Diamond and Silk.
Last evening, [8/27/18] the reality-challenged ladies were guests of Lou Dobbs on his Fox show. During their segment, they made the claim of right-wing bias at Google, calling it “tyranny” and “a form of political lynching.”
Diamond went on to say,
Somebody’s going to have to step in and take a look at this here.
My theory is that D&S read the Pajamas Media post then parroted the so-called conspiracy and Trump absorbed it while watching the program.
What’s Trump Gonna Do About It?
In a word: Not a damn thing! (OK, that’s four words.)
Oh, he may continue to cry and throw a tantrum a few more times, but when it comes to actually doing something? He can’t! Google is a privately held company that the occupant of the Oval Office has absolutely no control over. Congress may have the power to pass some sort of censorship bill aimed at Google. However, that’s probably a path to political suicide. The Republicans are in enough trouble already.
That won’t stop the threats, however. For instance, Trump sent Larry Kudlow, his economic advisor out to stir the pot some more.
When asked about Trump’s tirade, he responded that they were considering regulating Google.
We’re working on it. We’ll let you know!
Stay tuned for his next tantrum! If the past is prologue, you won’t have long to wait!
p.s.: If my ramblings don’t revolt you, check out my FaceBook page (“Grouchy’s Grumbles”) you might just enjoy it. Better yet, you might “like” it. I’d love it if you did. It’s free (and worth every cent) and almost completely painless (other than the usual bad jokes).
