When FDR took office, he asked Congress to give him powers to approach the economic crisis Republicans had put the country in with the same power and sense of urgency with which a president would approach a crisis of war.
Yes… we still keep hearing how Bush left us with the worst economy since the FIRST Republican Great Depression… but now, the only sense of urgency our representatives muster is when it comes to mobilizing our bloated military world police force.
John Boehner and Republicans like to tell us “let’s be honest, we’re broke” when they’re cutting health care, education, infrastructure, workers working, research and development, cancer clinics, public parks, veterans benefits or investing in the dignity of our seniors not to eat cat food – but if we were TRULY broke, the US taxpayers wouldn’t be paying over 2 trillion dollars of their tax money for nothing more the Pentagon to occupy the planet.
So… the British parliament listened to their war weary people and ixnayed their rush to war in Syria – but here in the great American Plutocracy – where legal bribery is built right into the system, we get lectured about how history will judge us if we don’t give Lockheed Martin and Raytheon more fat contracts to hang us on a cross of iron.
WATCH: Eisenhower’s Warning against the Military Industrial Complex (transcript):
President Obama is so outraged about the immorality of the use of chemical weapons in Syria, he’s going to show Assad that a “civilized” nation kills people – with Tomahawk missiles. If we really want to talk about “morality,” think about this: More Americans Committing Suicide because today than during the first Republican Great Depression. That homegrown immoral statistic (one of many) is just fine with Lockheed Martin’s Congress because we Americans are the world’s biggest suckers. We don’t even get to have health care for our taxes.
Surprise! Warmongering Senators funded by Military Industrial Complex
Surprise surprise! Senators voting Wednesday to authorize a military strike in Syria received, on average, 83 percent more legal bribes… I mean… campaign financing from defense contractors than lawmakers voting against war. With bribery built right into the what’s to stop the elected representatives from turning their constituents into expendable meat for the profitable war machine. Nothing!
But the war will be surgical – just like the coal will be clean!
Yep. There’s real psychological damage going on in a America. We elected a president to end these wars and focus on the mess Republicans left us again. In a time when wages are the worst they’ve been in 45 years, this president made a campaign promise to raise the minimum wage to $9.50 per hour by 2011. He’s done nothing about the moral outrage of wage stagnation, but now holds press conferences and national addresses about sending more money and energy into the middle east like the damn house is on fire.
War is a Failure of Leadership
Since the start of the second Republican Great Depression in 100 years, we’ve heard a lot how Capitalism has failed the middle class. No it hasn’t – Capitalism has created exactly the economic environment it was designed to create. Capitalism thrives 0n division, suffering, war … and it owns this government. Did you hear? Raytheon’s stock is soaring like an American Eagle!
Remember when Obama accepted the Nobel Peace prize? He laid out the circumstances in which war is justified – in self-defense, to come to the aid of an invaded nation, or on humanitarian grounds. Interestingly, these are the stories the rich tell the poor as they’re handing medals to their widows. He conveniently omitted the real reason which historically 99.9% of wars are fought – to protect the profits of the rich and their multinational corporations.
America needs to undergo a paradigm shift and understand that war is a failure of leadership. As is poverty, crumbling infrastructure, bankster corruption and unemployment.
When we go to war the only thing that wins… are capitalists like Raytheon.
