Perhaps I’d be able to muster a modicum of respect for Republicans if they would just come out and admit their intentions. For example, if they just admitted they loathe democracy, and don’t want democratic-leaning constituencies to vote, rather than go through this elaborate ruse surrounding non-existent voter fraud. Or if they just admitted they don’t give a whit whether Americans die in the streets for lack of health care.
Lyin’ Paul Ryan said Republicans ramming Trumpcare through the House without a single hearing is an “act of mercy.” Though, Lyin’ Ryan wouldn’t know compassion if he accidentally found it at the bottom of an already clean pot he was pretending to wash in a soup kitchen.
Ryan is practically walking around with a raging erection at the notion he’s closer than he’s ever been to destroying the social compact now that Trump is in the White House.
Though, the majority of Americans want the ACA “fixed” not demolished, Lyin’ Ryan and Trump claim they must destroy it because the ACA is “imploding.” This, of course, is just another right wing lie.
Along with the appalling revelation that Trumpcare kicks 25 million off insurance, squeezed seniors even more than ever and harms the working class and the poor, (while funneling more money to the top, of course), the Congressional Budget Report also disarms Trump, Lyin’ Ryan and Republicans of their Chicken Little “it’s imploding” defense for making America sicker.
Vox reports, “Beyond its eye-popping findings on higher premiums and large-scale coverage loss, the Congressional Budget Office’s official score of the American Health Care Act also quietly demolishes the central publicly stated rationale for repealing the Affordable Care Act. The key passage is a somewhat jargon-full sentence on the second page of the report that says, ‘In CBO and JCT’s assessment, however, the nongroup market would probably be stable in most areas under either current law or the legislation.’
Since this is a score of a proposed bill, the rest of the discussion naturally focuses on the “legislation” side of the ledger. But the assessment that markets will stabilize under current law is critical. President Trump’s central argument for repeal and replace is that the Affordable Care Act is “imploding,” so some kind of radical change is necessary.”
Vox broke down the CBO report like this, “Translating from wonk-ese, the subsidies offered to lower-income people under ACA are scaled both to income and to the local price of health insurance. Which means that for heavily subsidized customers, the higher premiums don’t drive people out of the marketplace. And there are enough young and healthy people who qualify for generous subsidies to ensure a stable long-term risk pool.”
Because facts and reality have such a liberal bias, and Republicans are masters of the fascist “big lie” tactic, just this past Monday, the so-called President reiterated the lie, “It’s a disaster…if we let it go for another year, it’ll totally implode.”
Let’s remember that, pre-ACA, health insurance premiums went up every year and Republicans never complained.
In fact, pre-ACA, Republicans never seemed to whine about the children with cancer who hitting their “lifetime caps” before they hit puberty… Or the 45,000 who unnecessarily died each year because they couldn’t afford to see a doctor… or the MILLIONS of “uniquely American” and “uniquely disgusting” – medical bankruptcy that were declared every year.
Now they’re going to “fix” the only step in the right direction we’ve ever taken by unleashing the very unregulated for-profit insurance racket that made the ACA necessary in the first place. We have no choice but to stop them dead in their tracks.
