Right-Wing ‘Family Values(?)’ On ‘Reality(?)’ TV:
For years, the Duggars were hyped as the quintessential example of right-wing Khristian “Family Values.” That is, until the fecal matter collided with the air circulation generator! (To any right-wing trogs trying to struggle through this, that means “the s#it hit the fan!”)
For a while it seemed like there were almost as many scandals as there were little Duggars chewing up the scenery. Some of those reputedly revolved around various scams by various family members. Others involved hate speech against the LGBT Community and others. But, I’m posting about right wing “family values,” so I’ll just stick with some prime examples of that:
- Incest coverup;
- Soliciting a prostitute;
- S&M with a porn star;
- Sex on demand. (But only if that demand comes from hubby!)
There’s more, but you get the idea. However, if you have a hankering for more juicy Duggar bits, this is a good place to start.
Move Over, Duggars! You’ve Got Some Competition!
The accumulation of Duggar scandals resulted in them losing their “reality(?)” program in 2015. And, while there were (and still are) attempts to keep them on tv, or at least keep them somewhat relevant, the world has more or less moved on.
But, tv execs, like nature, abhor a vacuum. Fortunately, with the Duggars biting the dust, and sucking the air out of their ratings. the USA Network had already installed “Chrisley Knows Best” starring those new darlings (hopefully) of the Bible/Bubba Belt: Todd Chrisley, his wife Julie. And, while their brood wasn’t exactly double-digit (only 5), the rest of the pieces were in place.
Ratings-wise, the program has done well, for a non-news, cable show. (Never under-estimate the number of Bubbas and Bubbettes out there.) It resides in the top 25, with occasional excursions higher when the competition is weak. However, it has not repeated the splash that “X# Kids and Counting” made.
And now, scandal-wise, this Duggar Clan clone is having a bad case of déjà vu.
Back in 2017, Kyle, the oldest son, was dealing with “chemical issues” (aka D-R-U-G-S). In what was probably not a great decision, he gave an interview on “Good Morning America.” During the course of the interview, he claimed his dad bragged about his tax evasion. He also requested that dear old dad face the consequences for that.
Kyle has since walked the claim back, but very possibly too late. This seemed to set some things in motion.
A couple of weeks ago, Todd and Julie were indicted for conspiracy to commit bank fraud, wire fraud conspiracy, tax evasion, aiding the filing of false tax returns and some other naughty financial no-no’s. If convicted, they can be prison inmate/missionaries for the next 30 years. Of course, both of them claim that it wasn’t their doing, it was done by an employee without their knowledge.
But there’s a funny thing about financial dealings with any bank and the IRS. Both require that the information given is totally accurate and are completely signed off on by the affected parties. (You’d think that Todd, being a multi-millionaire business type, would be aware of that.)
And, in the vein of “like father, like son,” Chase Chrisley got hit with a $17,000 lien for skipping out on paying his taxes.
All this created a ripple effect of animosity among the Chrisleys, after Kyle blamed his older sister, Lindsie, and their mother (Todd’s 1st wife) of snitching the financial dirt to the authorities.
Lindsie returned fire by claiming that Todd and another brother, Chase, tried to extort her over a sex tape. She claimed they “wanted her to lie about an incident and if she refused to do so, they were going to release the sex tape involving her.” She refused, but so far, no sex tape released. (I’ll keep an eye out!)
The FBI is currently investigating the alleged extortion. The alleged sex tape was supposedly from a “puppy cam” in the same room as a couch shared by Lindsie and her “friend.” As the “friend” put it,
I’m not sitting there with a camera aimed down and trying to get the angles. Like, we got caught on the security camera, basically. It was a puppy camera in her friend’s living room, the couch we crashed on. No consent from either end, which kind of debunks [the sex tape claim].
However, the owners of the puppy cam deny there’s any tape at all. In any case, unless Bill Barr gets involved, we’ll probably get to the bottom sooner or later.
While not releasing the alleged tape, daddy Todd claimed that Lindsie played “hide the pickle” with some dudes while she was married to another dude (and still is). (In my personal opinion, any “father” that would do or say anything like this about his oldest daughter, deserves to rot in Hell. If there really was one.)
Oh, and then there’s the small matter of an outstanding warrant stemming from Kyle’s alleged death threats against his estranged wife, back in January.
Nothing To See Here!
The Chrisley’s are currently engaged in damage control, claiming that the family is coming together and there’s really nothing to see here. They even did a photo-op at Kyle’s hospital bedside. Kyle was allegedly in the hospital for an adverse reaction to medication. However, as recently as May, Kyle’s bad habits were still surfacing as he was arrested in Oklahoma for possession of methamphetamine. So, was meth the medication he had a reaction to???
I think I understand why the Chrisleys, as well as the Duggars, are true representations of “Khristian Family Values.”
