Target: The Federal Communications Commission
When the people win, Republicans lose… and they’re not going down without a fight.
So, now they’re unleashing their typical fear, misinformation and lies against Net Neutrality and FCC Chairman Wheeler’s announcement that he’s set to ensure a free and open internet by regulating telecommunications providers as common carriers; using Title II to impose [net neutrality] rules that ban blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization of the internet.
Thursday, February 26th is when FCC commissioners are set to cast this critical vote to determine the future of the Internet.
The petition’s author, Nathan Empsall, writes: “The FCC is voting on ‘net neutrality’ rules, or what some refer to as the ‘open Internet’ — protections that make sure Internet providers can’t block or charge more for certain content.
Without net neutrality, if a corporate billionaire wanted to buy your Internet provider and slow down or even block activist websites like Care2, there would be nothing to stop him! Already we see companies like Comcast choking the speed of websites that compete with their products, like Netflix.
To put it bluntly: If the FCC doesn’t pass strong, new net neutrality rules this week, you won’t have a legal right to communicate or innovate freely online.
President Obama has asked the FCC to support net neutrality, but giant companies like Verizon are spending like crazy to make sure they don’t. Sign the petition today to make sure the grassroots speak louder than the corporate cash! Tell the FCC to protect our Internet!”
