If there was any doubt that Donald Trump was the most manifestly unfit person to occupy the White House in recent memory, he put it to rest on Monday. In response to news that former aide Omarosa Manigault-Newman was releasing a tell-all book about her time in the White House, Trump applauded chief of staff John Kelly for “firing that dog.” By itself, that line was horribly degrading and possibly racist. It also once and for all proved the lie to any talk that Trump is any sort of Christian, as his more ardent fundie supporters would have you believe.
But consider that Trump has a teenage son living with him, and also has two grown daughters. It’s hard not to wonder–how would he react if someone said something that degrading to Ivanka or Tiffany? Or if he learned Barron had made a degrading remark to one of his female classmates? It says a lot that we even have to ask that question.
For most of this week, just about everyone with an iota of decency has been howling with outrage at this latest degrading tweet from Trump. But at least one diehard Trump supporter is outraged by that outrage–Jesse Lee Peterson.
Peterson is one of the loudest and most obnoxious members of two very exclusive clubs who are still bowing down to Trump–religious right pastors and black conservatives. He believes Trump is a sterling example of what a real man should be–and if you think otherwise, the devil himself is your father.
So it came as no surprise that Peterson was not pleased at Omarosa turning on Trump. What came as a surprise, though, was that Peterson didn’t see fit to condemn Trump’s horribly degrading attack on Omarosa. Far from it–he piled on.
He started in on her during the Tuesday edition of his radio show. Watch here.
Before opening the phone lines, Peterson riffed on Omarosa with his producer, James Hake. Peterson didn’t take long to go off the rails, saying that he wanted to call her a human being, “but that’s too nice.”
When Hake passed on the news that Trump called Omarosa a dog, did Peterson denounce it? Nope.
She’s a dirty dog. Bow-wow-wow-wow-wow-wow!
Later, he suggested that Hake “get the dog on the show.”
Whatever you may think about Omarosa, there is no defensible reason to talk to or about women this way. Period, full stop. Even if Peterson was angry at Omarosa for turning on “the great white hope,” as he calls Trump, you would think he would draw the line at degrading her. Apparently not.
Remember two things, folks. This is coming from a guy who holds himself out as a pastor. And this is coming from a guy who holds himself out as “rebuilding men” through his nonprofit, the Brotherhood Organization for a New Destiny (BOND). So when men are “rebuilt” by Peterson’s ministry, they’re supposed to have no problem with degrading women? If so, it sounds like BOND is long overdue for a date with the wrecking ball.
Peterson googled down on Thursday’s show. Watch here.
Peterson wagged his finger at Omarosa for turning on Trump after he “gave her help along the way.” As Peterson put it, “we wouldn’t know that she (Omarosa) exists” if not for Trump. Among other things, he rolled his eyes at Omarosa’s claim that Trump used the N-word on “The Apprentice.”
As he sees it, Omarosa’s claim that she would have resigned from the Trump administration on the spot if she’d heard him use the N-word is proof that she’s “Satan’s daughter.” He doesn’t think that anyone will ever trust Omarosa again, not even “the children of the lie who are using her.” He then applauded Trump for calling Omarosa a dog, saying that it was an example of how Trump “speaks his mind.”
Well, if that’s true, it’s the mind of a man who is a sexist pig–at best. And as one black man to another, Jesse Lee, if you’re cheerleading Trump for this, we have a name for people like you–“disgrace to the race.”
It says a lot that this needs to be repeated, but apparently it must be repeated. Real men do not talk about or to women in this way. Period, full stop. Anyone who thinks Trump’s slagging of Omarosa was remotely okay is as depraved as he is. And that’s especially true for supposed men of God like Peterson.
