History and reality have such a liberal bias, we know. Of course, that doesn’t matter to today’s fascist Republican Party. Their platform is, basically, malignant narcissism masquerading as a political ideology – and that requires their adeptness at simply making things up.
Think about it. Given that the kiss up/kick down oligarchy they pander to is everything the United States was founded to prevent, really… they have no choice but lie. Everywhere you look, Republicans are propped up by lies. They lie about “voter fraud” to justify their attempt to seize permanent power. After giving the most lie-ridded speech in American history (pre-Trump) they propelled Lyin’ Paul Ryan to the speakership. They enable a prolific conman, treasonous, baldfaced-liar so-called President. Their fascist billionaire benefactors fund and maintain outright propaganda outlets. They collude with foreign, anti-democratic, dictators to flood social media with lies. They literally rewrite history in school textbooks to disseminate to children… and they love putting fake quotes in the mouths of the founders to justify their assault du jour they’re trying to inflict on the public.
For example, when so-called Vice President Mike Pence was asked on “Fox & Friends” whether people were rightfully concerned about the latest Republican attempt to kick millions of Americans off health care (don’t worry… Mike Pence… Twitler… and the Republican ghouls in Congress have great healthcare…) and make it impossible for people with pre-existing conditions to get the care they desperately need, Pence responded by pulling a Thomas Jefferson quote out of his ass.
Pence said, “Thomas Jefferson said, ‘Government that governs least, governs best.'” Something that Jefferson never said.
He continued, “I mean the question that people ought to ask is, who do you think will be more responsible to the health care needs in your community? Your governor, your state legislature, or a congressman and a president in a far-off nation’s capital. I mean, this is the concept of federalism upon which our constitution was framed.”
Of course, the morons at “Fox & Friends” didn’t correct their so-called V.P. Moron. They’re as willfully ignorant as the dupes who consume right-wing lies and beg for a Republican daddy to trickle on them.
Regardless of what the Jesus he pretends to worship instructed, Republican monsters like Pence will spend their blip of time on the planet doing everything they can to hoard wealth and power in order to strip vital health care from others. Tell me. If that’s not the definition of “evil,” what is?
Though they’ll wrap it in the veneer of the “Constitution” – a document they cherry-pick from more than the Bible. Republicans claim to love the Constitution, but (as usual) reality proves otherwise.
According to Politicus, “Republicans have expressed great interest in eliminating much of the Constitution that prevents them from ruling like dictators. For example, there is little doubt Republicans, particularly religious Republicans, hate the 14th Amendment that prevents religious Republicans from legally discriminating against the non-compliant and non-believers. They also seriously hate the idea of birthright citizenship and want it abolished as much as they want equal rights under the law eliminated for anyone who is not a white Christian conservative male guaranteed to religiously vote for Republicans.
Republicans also detest the 17th Amendment that was arguably the last piece of the Constitution that actually brought America a little closer to being a representative democracy. Since Republicans have demonstrated they oppose democracy out of hand, they want to ban the people from electing representatives to serve in the United States’ Senate; they want Republicans to appoint Republicans to the Senate.
Their idea is not novel, but it is another attempt at tyranny because with Republicans controlling two-thirds of the states, eliminating the 17th Amendment would give a minority of the population a veto-proof Senate majority and complete control of the federal government. And, as a bonus for conservatives, it will wipe out any semblance of a representative democracy; something the Koch brothers and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) openly support.”
Clearly, the standard Republican fall-back of “give it to the states,” doesn’t apply if the “states” want to… say… set up a single-payer health care plan of their own.
Watching the Republican Party figuratively urinate all over our institutions, devalue truth and denigrate the government our founders fought a revolution to create is not only embarrassing, it’s disgraceful. I am left wondering daily if this country will ever recover. Goodness knows many American won’t ever get the chance if Republicans strip them of health care.
So far, there’s nothing from Pence apologizing for spreading fake news. Being Republican means never having to say “oops” – no matter how many times they crash the economy, commit treason, conspire with our enemies, start illegal wars or outright lie to our faces.
Though, this isn’t the first time Republicans made up quotes. n order to lull their willfully-ignorant supporters to cheer – and vote for – their own demise, Republicans routinely call on fake quotes to back them up.
