Thanks to Reagan’s trickle-down voodoo and the subsequent dismantling of FDR’s New Deal with the help of DLC “New” Democrats, in just over 30 years, the United States went from the most to the least upwardly mobile with the widest income gap of all industrialized nations, Currently, many working class Americans not propagandized by Fox News are waking up on the wrong side of Reaganomics to realize that without regulation, capitalism only serves to destroy democracy and funnel more money to the top.
The presidential candidacy of democratic socialists Bernie Sanders and the election of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, are cases in point. Even “mainstream” democrats are supporting more progressive initiatives like universal healthcare, universal higher education and an economy that works for all.
On a recent episode of “The View,” the ladies discussed Ocasio-Cortez’s patform, “Medicare for all, fully funded public schools and universities, paid family and sick leave, justice reform, immigration justice, infrastructure overhaul, clean campaign finance, economy of peace, housing as a human right,” co-host Sunny Hostin noted.
“That sounds like a successful country,’ Joy Behar observed.
After years of vilifying the word “socialism,” the Republican disinformation campaign isn’t giving right winges the same “bang for its buck” it once did.
This triggered the trust-funded McCain who jumped in, “This makes my head explode,” as she whipped out the Right’s oft-quoted Margaret Thatcher musing on socialism, “the trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”
If only out-of-context quotes trickled down prosperity to all! Too bad a quote doesn’t equal reality. If one were to get technical, the fact remains that you actually don’t “run out” of ‘other people’s money,’ – especially if a nation prints its own currency as we do. Democratic socialists simply demand a progressive tax system which prevents a bloated fortune that can buy politicians who corrupt government in favor of those at the top… oh, wait. This is not a radical ideal. Neither is progressive taxation.
In 1910, Teddy Roosevelt explained it like this,
“No man should receive a dollar unless that dollar has been fairly earned. Every dollar received should represent a dollar?s worth of service rendered?not gambling in stocks, but service rendered. The really big fortune, the swollen fortune, by the mere fact of its size, acquires qualities which differentiate it in kind as well as in degree from what is possessed by men of relatively small means. Therefore, I believe in a graduated income tax on big fortunes, and in another tax which is far more easily collected and far more effective, a graduated inheritance tax on big fortunes, properly safeguarded against evasion, and increasing rapidly in amount with the size of the estate.”
Clearly, a decade more of life on earth hasn’t given McCain an opportunity to take a history class. In an attempt to deliberately add confusion and twist facts, McCain then asserted that all those who believe in socialism should voluntarily pay a 90% tax rate. In reality, the 90% rate refers to the top marginal rate – like we had under that “Socialist” Republican president Dwight D. Eisenhower. Adjusting for today’s dollars, Eisenhower’s 90% rate would only kick in after 1.7 million dollars, meaning only a small percentage of Americans would be affected. The progressive rate was also commonly understood as a patriotic tax that prevented the development of democracy-destroying intergenerational aristocracy.
Confronted with the prospect of having to help fund the civilization she happily and unconsciously rides to the bank. McCain’s rage against the very notion of, maybe, losing a zero on a bank account she wouldn’t be able to spend in ten lifetimes, had her unable to contain herself in her seat.
Watch the clip below:
I had a lot of fun watching Meghan McCain completely melt down at the thought of Democratic Socialists coming for her inherited wealth pic.twitter.com/IFBkTKL4K6

Of course, McCain was unmoved:
Get a life Soledad – I’m passionate and don’t want my grandkids growing up in a socialist nation. https://t.co/qnYyREZUct

The aggravating irony in McCain’s meltdown is that she was born into wealth, and owes her entire career to the fact that her father is a notable Republican Senator and former presidential candidate.
In 201o, Cheri Jacobus openly pondered “Why is Meghan McCain on TV?,” writing,
“why is it that we are listening to a [then] 26-year-old with no political or professional accomplishments of her own? Her book Dirty, Sexy Politics would not be possible were it not for her good luck of being the daughter of John McCain.”
Jacobus continued, ‘Please tell us why the musings of a young woman with no accomplishments or experience of her own, other than sitting on the Straight Talk Express between her parents, warrants a spot on the serious political news shows.
‘I speak as a 26-year-old woman, and my problem is that, no matter what, Christine O’Donnell is making a mockery of running for public office,’ McCain said. ‘She has no real history, no real success in any kind of business.’ McCain said O’Donnell’s lack of experience is a problem and that “one day you can just wake and run for Senate, no matter how [much of] a lack of experience you have.”
Really??? Pot — meet kettle.”
Ten year later, nothing has changed – and why would it? McCain is up to her eyeballs in inherited wealth and continuously finds herself thrust in front of a microphone on the national stage. Her very existence is, in fact, an argument for why progressive taxation and a high marginal rate are the exact remedy this country needs. McCain joins a long list of raving Republican trust-fund brats who were born on third base, thinking they hit a triple. It’s time they’re fairly taxed to fund the civilization they exploit. If they find they simply can’t live on a few million, may I suggest they get some “retraining,” find a job and learn the “dignity of work.”
In the meantime, please enjoy some of these Twitter reactions to McCain’s meltdown:
We know! You want your brats to be the new American intergenerational aristocracy -like the founders fought a revolution against.
Arguing by using a Thatcher quote is as vapid as your myopic, self-serving ideology. Even Thatcher supported universal healthcare, you moron pic.twitter.com/UOsFfewCFc

If Meghan McCain got as riled up about any social issue as much as she does about defending her father’s bad politics or screaming fear mongering lies about taxes, she could really do something.
Instead, she’s a selfish, privileged, narrow minded, & self righteous liar. https://t.co/zUzQOP5WNp

I love daydreaming about Meghan McCain losing her inheritance because Socialism.

Ppl rightfully sharing this #fun video of Joy Behar MOPPING the floor w/ Meghan McCain on democratic socialism.
I’d add that VA quality tracks roughly like non-VA health care across nation, i.e. good in Massachusetts where it’s a priority, bad in Alabama where it’s not. https://t.co/5Q4h3t23Ah

That View clip. Bigger issue is @MeghanMcCain. She has done nothing to enjoy the privilege to spew her opinions to people. She has accomplished nothing. She is just wealthy beyond acceptability. But there she is, yapping about socialism as if she’s tethered to any sort of reality
