Well folks … Donald isn’t even in office yet and Ivanka Trump is already hard at work, helping daddy dearest run the Kingdom like any good princess would do.
If you hadn’t heard, she’s already doing things like connecting with Japan’s Prime Minister by attending her father’s first meeting with a head of state since his win. So there’s THAT. No ethics violation there… right? She just wanted him to see the pretty bracelet she made. Even though she wasn’t elected to any office or given any cabinet position, who knows how, or in what way, she will influence these connections, or more importantly, what these connections will want from The Trump Kingdom.
Don’t fret! You don’t need to be a world leader to get the ear of Ivanka (or Daddy). The good news is that if you have a nice chunk of change, you can bid on an exclusive meet and greet, for two, with Ivanka! WooHoo! YESSSS!
According to reports, Ivanka will be auctioning off a coffee date at Trump Tower NYC or Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. The current bid is $62,000. The president-elect’s favorite daughter has promised to donate the money to her daddy’s business … err um … that is … I mean … the Eric Trump Foundation to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The foundation if you recall, was accused of funneling nearly a million dollars into Trump golf courses:
In promotional videos and press releases, ETF touts a 95 to 100 percent donation ratio and implies that by benefit of being a Trump, namesake properties are handed over for charity events at little or no cost. But according to a Daily Beast analysis of annual IRS reports and New York state financial disclosures from the charity’s inception in 2007 to 2014, the most recent year for which data is available, ETF spent $881,779 on its annual Golf Invitational at Trump-owned clubs, a portion of which—$100,000 in 2013 and $88,000 in 2014—was reported as paid directly “to a company of a family member of the Board of Directors.” In other words, Donald Trump himself.
So on the surface, it looks like the money is going toward an excellent cause, but I’m not so sure.
I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love it when people are in a position to use their organization for good, like the Clintons have done with their foundation. So the objection is not over Ivanka wanting to do a charity event. The issue is that the Clinton Foundation was repeatedly attacked by team Trump as being a “pay to play” situation, in that the foundation was used as a way to influence politics. There was absolutely no proof of that, but that didn’t stop Republicans from attacking it. Well, I’m sorry, but isn’t paying a large sum of money so you can have a coffee date with Ivanka “pay-to-play”? Oh…the hypocrisy.
The auction certainly doesn’t rule out who can pay for the privilege of bending the ear of daddy’s little girl. It could all be innocent, maybe they will just exchange recipes from Pinterest boards? Maybe not. Maybe, just maybe, it will be someone trying to influence the president through his daughter. The plot thickens!
Team Trump had their supporters all worked up over the Clinton Foundation, insisting it was a total pay to play deal, yet I am pretty sure the same supporters won’t feel someone with deep pockets paying to have a “play date” with Ivanka is the same thing. The whole thing makes my head spin.
So let’s try this and put a positive spin to this story, next time you go out for that double shot of espresso, stop by a place that donates to a real charity and not one that uses funds to have giant portraits of their CEO’s done.
Since it’s that time of year, how about Toys For Tots.
Let Ivanka pay for her own coffee…. just sayin.
