For the last two years, the mantra of Donald Trump’s most diehard supporters has been “Lock her up! Lock her up!” Even as evidence mounts that Trump has engaged in behavior that was unethical at best and criminal at worst, his most diehard supporters still want him to throw Hillary Clinton in jail. Recently, a so-called prophet who is one of Trump’s most diehard diehards all but begged Trump to hurry up and put Hillary in the clink–lest someone decide to take the law into their own hands.
Mark Taylor, a retired firefighter from Orlando, became a household word among Trump-worshiping evangelicals when he revealed that God had told him in 2011 that Trump would be elected president. But oh, those cansarn details. Any competent reading of this “prophecy” shows that Taylor predicted Trump would unseat Barack Obama in 2012. As we all know, that didn’t happen. Moreover, barely a week after Taylor received this “prophecy,” Trump ruled out a presidential bid in 2012.
But that hasn’t stopped Taylor from being branded as a “prophet” by those still bowing down to Trump. He’s used that platform to, among other things, warn us against speaking ill of Trump. His explanation–Trump is a “political prophet” and “anointed spiritual machine,” and attacking him amounts to “touching God’s anointed.”
Taylor has also used that platform to champion “QAnon,” the crackpot conspiracy theory that claims just about everyone who is anyone in the Democratic Party and on the left is part of a massive pedophilia ring. Supposedly, that ring is on the verge of being blown wide open by Trump, and the Justice Department and FBI are about to make a slew of arrests. He has used his newly-minted Twitter account to aggressively promote this lunacy, and has had few qualms about retweeting some of QAnon’s louder proponents, such as Liz Crokin.
Apparently Taylor is worried that Trump isn’t doing enough to sound the alarm. On Monday, he dropped by the podcast of fellow conspiracy peddler Chris McDonald to discuss QAnon and other topics–and deliver an urgent message to his messiah.
Taylor told McDonald that thousands of suspected pedophiles have already been arrested. However, Trump supposedly doesn’t want to make it public so as not to cause undue alarm before the upcoming midterm elections. But Taylor urged Trump not to sit on this too long, because the natives are supposedly getting restless. People for the American Way’s Right Wing Watch got a clip.
Taylor claimed that “the general public” knows Hillary is a monster in a pantsuit, and is waiting for her to be locked up. To hear him talk, “something better happen quick, or some people are going to take matters into their own hands.”
What could happen? Well, according to Taylor, unless Trump acts quickly, we could face “an Ambassador Stevens situation.” He was referring to Christopher Stevens, the American ambassador to Libya who was murdered in the now-infamous 2012 attack on the embassy. Supposedly, elements of the American people are so angry at Hillary that they may burst into Hillary’s house, then “drag her out in the streets and display her dead body as a trophy if they don’t do something.”
In an apparent effort to maintain plausible deniability, Taylor said that he didn’t believe it would get that far. He claimed that there was “a fine line here on timing,” and God supposedly had the timing down so Hillary and others would be in handcuffs before it got to the point that we would have to worry about her being lynched. Even so, it’s rather telling that McDonald sat there impassively as Taylor actually suggested that a former First Lady and former Secretary of State is in danger of being lynched.
We’ve heard this before from diehard fundies. In 2013, for instance, another so-called prophet, Rick Joyner, claimed that the only way to save this country would be a military takeover followed by a period of martial law. Watch him say it here; the call for martial law comes at around the 7:40 mark.
Joyner doubled down on this last year, when he claimed that an attempt to impeach Trump would be a sign the country has gone off the rails–and the only way to get it “back on the rails” would be via martial law.
It says a lot about the state of our country’s affairs when people like Joyner and Taylor can engage in this kind of incendiary rhetoric and still maintain enough influence to keep their followers bowing down to Trump.
