Donald Trump hates CNN. Really, really, really hates CNN. He hates it so much that he once tweeted a GIF showing him bodyslamming a network that he thought wasn’t just “FAKE NEWS!” but “Fraud News.” That hatred has passed copiously to his most diehard supporters. They have joined him in an effort to tie CNN and the media at large to a supposed conspiracy with the Democrats to subvert his drive to make America great again.
But some of the most deplorable of the deplorables appear to be taking this trend to a new, and frightening, extreme. They’re trying to make it appear that the network that wants us to “go there” is actually going for the trafficking of children.
For the better part of three years, a gaggle of hard-right pseudojournalists and Twitter users have tried to tie virtually everyone who is everyone in the Democratic Party and Hollywood to a supposed massive sex trafficking ring. This ring is known as “Pizzagate” because it’s supposedly based at the Comet Ping Pong pizzeria in Washington. A bastard child of this theory, “QAnon,” insists that Trump is on the verge of opening the trap door under these perverts.
These so-called protectors of children have continued peddling this nonsense despite at least two documented incidents where innocent people were almost killed in the name of protecting the kids being exploited by these sick and evil people. The fact that they baselessly accuse people of either being pedophiles or covering for pedophiles when they almost certainly know about these near-tragedies is beyond reckless.
One of the most shameless promoters of this lunacy is cosplay journalist Liz Crokin. She has insisted to anyone who will listen that those who oppose Trump, like J. K. Rowling, are likely covering for pedophiles–that is, if they aren’t pedophiles themselves. Twitter finally got around to booting her last winter, but that hasn’t stopped her incessant efforts to tie Democrats and celebrities to this nonsense. She’s simply used her Instagram feed to do it.
Crokin’s willingness to smear people as perverts has led her to skate pretty close to the line, and in some cases go way over it. For instance, she falsely accused a fellow QAnon kook of being a deep state plant–and even went as far as to dox her. Incredibly, Instagram didn’t see fit to delete Crokin’s account.
On Sunday, Crokin may have gone over the line once again. She tried to tie CNN to Pizzagate. What extraordinary evidence did she offer for this extraordinary claim? The wife of CNN boss Jeff Zucker was supposedly friends with Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged henchwoman, Ghislaine Maxwell.
Crokin shared screenshots from fellow Pizzagate and QAnon kooks showing pictures of Caryn Zucker alongside Maxwell. She also claimed that combined with Jake Tapper and his wife being frequent guests at Comet Ping Pong, it’s enough to directly tie CNN to Pizzagate.
There’s a name for this sort of thing–libel. Specifically, libel demonstrating reckless disregard for the truth. And in this case, reckless disregard for the safety of the Zucker family. Remember, Crokin almost certainly knows that innocent people were put in harm’s way in the name of protecting the children supposedly being exploited by those sick and evil liberals. And yet, she continues posting this dreck.
After this, it’s long past time for Instagram to shut Crokin’s mic. And it’s long past time for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to shutter the mics of these Pizzagate and QAnon kooks. They shouldn’t have to wait for another idiot to try and “self-investigate” Pizzagate in order to act.
