As Occupy Wall Street protesters massed in Lower Manhattan on November 17th, just days after he shut out the press and evicted them – Gestopo style – from Zuccotti park, New York City tinpot tyrant Mayor Michael Bloomberg addressed an enthralled audience of his compatriots in the 1% and in his typical, dismissive, patronizing style, said, “Occupy Wall Street had this great saying, and they were chanting it: ‘We don’t know what we want, but we want it now!'” This, apparently, prompted the crowd, which included filthy wiretapper Rupert Murdoch, to chortle with laughter.
These morally bankrupt, impotent, bankster thugs, need to laugh, you see… it’s a nervous reaction to that gnawing fear that their party is coming to an end. In their hearts they know that the 99% ACTUALLY HAVE an agenda – to end the corrosive influence of wealth on our government – and they are catching on to the fact that Bloomberg and his buddies are problem.
The meme is out there. Occupy Wall Street doesn’t know what they want… they’re unemployed and unemployable… they just have nothing better to do… and they SMELL – just ask Newt Gingrich! He’ll tell you! But, you see… Newt, the only Speaker of the House to ever be sanctioned for ethics violations, like the rest of his pals in the elite catbird seats of power, has a vested interest in maintaining a corrupt government system that operates solely as an appendage to the affairs of billionaires.
|End Corporate Welfare… Stop Corporate Control of Government Banks… Banks Got Bailed Out We Got Sold Out… Bring Back Glass Steagall Act… Wall Street Bailout is Socialism for the Wealthy… Gee… What could they want? WHO KNOWS?|
As usual, some poor Faux News victims actually repeat the disparaging refrains against the 99% movement, comfortable in their role of disenfranchised wage slave clinging to the hope that a billionaire might one day meet them for a beer. They think the Occupiers should just “occupy” a job… hopelessly clueless to the reality that 30 years of ever-encroaching Corporate ownership of government has shipped jobs that used to pay a living wage to cheap labor nations… thus turning America from a growing democracy where the majority of citizens enjoyed comfortable, middle class, lives into the LEAST upwardly mobile with the widest income gap of all industrialized nations. It’s pretty damn tragic that any member of the working class would cheer on these policies, but that’s the power of propaganda – and the 1% knows it.
That’s why, in addition to using the public police to launch coordinated attacks on the protests nationwide, the elite are turning their energies towards propaganda meant to undermine the 99% movement. As Slate reported, a leaked memo reveals a financial services lobbying firm’s $850,000 offer to undermine Occupy Wall Street protests.
“According to MSNBC’s “Up With Chris Hayes,” lobbying firm Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford sent a memo to the American Bankers Association with an outline for the plan, which suggests, among other things, doing “opposition research” on the Occupy movement in order to help construct “negative narratives” about protesters and the politicians who support them.”
Despair not! Backlash Means 99% Movement is on the Right Track
The efforts to destroy the Occupy movement speaks volumes. As much as the media, and even the President, try to paint the 99% as just the other side of the Tea Party, there is one glaring difference – for all their packing heat, disruptions at town hall meetings, and holding signs with the Jefferson quote about the “tree of liberty” needing to be “refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants,” not a single Teabagger tasted the sting of a billy club across their Faux News-addled skulls. The reason for this is simple, Teabaggers are useful idiots cheerleading the system that created the New Gilded Age – for which the 99% movement is the remedy.
13th century Buddhist monk Nichiren Daishonin wrote, “Something uncommon occurs when an ordinary person attains Buddhahood. At such a time… devils will invariably appear, and the wise will rejoice while the foolish will retreat.”* Right now, ordinary Americans are waking up to their inherent value… and will no longer compliantly abide a system that exploits, devalues and discards them. This awakening, which gave birth to the Occupy movement, is clearly on the right track – as evidenced by the fact the “devils” have promptly appeared to shut it down.
Real change is possible, so retaliation is inevitable. The “they don’t know what they want” meme is the innocuous tip of the ice berg. The Right Wing propaganda machine will no doubt aim to tickle the scientifically-verified large amygdalas (fear centers) in CONservative brains in ways meant to keep them from sympathizing – and even joining – a movement that is the one, true, agent for social and economic justice meant to rescue an oppressed people from an entrenched aristocracy since the Colonists dumped tea in Boston harbor. (Side note… the Boston Tea Party was a protest against HUGE CORPORATE TAX BREAKS for the British East India Company, the largest trans-national corporation then in existence, which decimated local business. Read about that here.)
As Chris Hedges wrote, “The billionaire mayor of New York, enriched by a deregulated Wall Street, is unable to grasp why people would spend two months sleeping in an open park and marching on banks. He says he understands that the Occupy protests are “cathartic” and “entertaining,” as if demonstrating against the pain of being homeless and unemployed is a form of therapy or diversion, but that it is time to let the adults handle the affairs of state. Democratic and Republican mayors, along with their parties, have sold us out. But for them this is the beginning of the end.” Read the rest of Hedges’ article, “This Is What Revolution Looks Like” here.
As long as the fundamental, underlying problems that turned the working class into the working poor remain, there will eventually come a time when all the propaganda in the world won’t be loud enough to drown out the dismal reality that has been created by this Corporate-owned, government system. And the people won’t rest until real change is achieved. Whether they admit it or not, everyone – even Bloomberg and his country club buddies – knows it.
The system is sick and broken – and a sick and broken system cannot fix a sick and broken system. As the rot of a bankster-owned government continues to betray the American Dream in the name of greed – the 99% Movement will swell – in spite of the backlash.
