First Son-in-Law Jared Kushner could potentially be in very hot water as the investigation into Russia’s effort to hack the election rolls on. For some time, he has been “a person of interest” in that investigation.
Among other things, Kushner was one of the senior Donald Trump campaign aides who were on hand for the now-infamous meeting at Trump Tower. He was caught red-handed lying about his contacts with Russian officials during the transition. During one of those contacts, he sought a secret communications link between the Kremlin and the Trump transition team. He also reportedly directed incoming National Security Adviser Michael Flynn to approach Russia about helping derail a United Nations vote on Israeli settlements.
In other words, Jared is not exactly a savory character. So I never thought I’d see the day I’d be coming to his defense. But there is no other option after a right-wing pundit targeted him with a viciously anti-Semitic smear. He suggested that Kushner may very well be the Antichrist.
On Tuesday, conspiracy peddler and survivalist Steve Quayle sat down for a chat with father-and-son conspiracy traffickers Doug and Joe Hagmann, hosts of “The Hagmann Report.” The original topic was a supposed “satanic globalist agenda” to build the Third Temple in Jerusalem. For those who don’t know, many Jews have long desired to build a third temple on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount.
With a topic like that, you knew this show was going to go off the rails, and quickly. But just far off the rails didn’t become apparent until Quayle suggested that based on something he supposedly heard from the Lord, the Antichrist could potentially be none other than Jared Kushner. People for the American Way’s Right Wing Watch got a clip.
Quayle claimed that a few nights earlier, something “dropped into my spirit” about Kushner. It related to his namesake, the biblical patriarch Jared. Quayle noted that according to ancient Hebrew texts, Jared was the patriarch when a number of angels were cast out of heaven. This led him to conclude that while Kushner may portray himself as a “man of peace,” he is “absolutely the prime candidate to be the Antichrist.”
As further “evidence,” Quayle cited Kushner’s ownership of 666 Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. He left out that Kushner’s real estate company sold the building last summer. But that didn’t get in Quayle’s way.
If you take New York, and I do, as the commercial center of commercial Babylon, then what you’ve got is you’ve got someone whose name links with the time of the fallen angels. And it’s my position, Tom, I know you know this, that the earthly kings, so many of them are fallen angels, if you will, in human drag, that’s really the only way I know how to say it. And the thing that is really critical is that it’s imperative that people understand that there’s a lot in a name. Because the name Jared, and that’s what’s interesting, means ‘descent’ or ‘descendant.’
Quayle believed that while Trump’s fundie supporters may be “clapping and jumping up and down” at the prospect of the Third Temple, they may be unwittingly funding the coming of the Antichrist.
He then turned his guns on Jared’s wife, Ivanka. He recalled that Ivanka was seen wearing a “Kabbalah-style” bracelet–supposedly to protect her from the “evil eye.” A number of wingnuts have played up Ivanka and Jared’s supposed links to Kabbalah, which is Jewish mysticism–witchcraft, as some of them put it.
To Quayle’s mind, this is further evidence something sinister is afoot. While he believes Trump is “doing everything he believes is right to do,” his daughter may be married to “one of the most villainous men in the world.”
So let’s see what we’ve got here. A right-winger branding a high-profile, wealthy Jew as evil. And not just evil, but possibly the Antichrist. It is literally impossible to be more blatantly anti-Semitic than that. It’s no different from Frank Gaffney suggesting that George Soros was–at the very least–the “right-hand man” of the Antichrist.
Incredibly, this is the second blatantly anti-Semitic smear hurled at Ivanka and Jared that has been uncovered in the last week. If you’ll recall, later on Tuesday, Rick Wiles claimed that Trump’s push to decrminalize homosexuality was evidence that he was “controlled by the Jews“–a not-so-veiled reference to Ivanka and Jared.
One has to wonder–is this what we’ll get from the loonier fringes of the right if and when they ever turn on Trump and his family? While Kushner may have a lot to answer for, this sort of pigweed is out-of-bounds, and must be strongly condemned.
