Poor Michele Bachmann… it’s not that she is appallingly stupid to the history she purports to be an expert of, it’s the damn liberal media that reports her appalling stupidity who deserve chastising. Much like her sister in stupidity, Sarah Palin, Bachmann has the CON victim act down pat.
The Boston Herald Reported, “Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann yesterday made her Granite State debut with historical and geographic missteps.
“You’re the state where the shot was heard around the world at Lexington and Concord,” she said at an event organized by the Republican Liberty Caucus of New Hampshire, according to Politico.com. “And you put a marker in the ground and paid with the blood of your ancestors.”
Too bad for Bachmann, the “shot heard ’round the world” was fired in Massachusetts.”
TPM continued, “Somewhat ironically, Scott Conroy of RealClearPolitics reports that Bachmann also talked a bit about the importance of teaching children the facts and letting them draw their own conclusions. “I don’t think that our public schools are necessarily the place where one fixed set of political beliefs should be imposed on students,” she said. “I think that knowledge, facts, and information should be on the table, and let students decide what their beliefs should be.”
Bachmann’s gotten her American history wrong before. Back in January, she lauded the United States for its early commitment to diversity. “It didn’t matter the color of their skin, it didn’t matter their language, it didn’t matter their economic status,” Bachmann said of the first settlers. She also praised the founders who she said “worked tirelessly until slavery was no more in the United States.”
Late Update: Bachmann responded in two posts on her Facebook page:
“So I misplaced the battles Concord and Lexington by saying they were in New Hampshire. It was my mistake, Massachusetts is where they happened. New Hampshire is where they are still proud of it!
And by the way… That will be the last time I borrow President Obama’s tele-promoter!”
But, as the Minnesota Post points out, she made the same mistake the night before on the sea coast of New Hampshire: “It’s your state that fired the shot that was heard around the world, you are the state of Lexington and Concord (sic), you started the battle for liberty right here in your backyard.”
Bachmann has gotten into the habit of making ignorant statements about American history. She claimed the founding fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery and that John Quincy Adams was a founding father who lived to see slavery’s end.. Not surprisingly, Bachmann is the leader of the House Tea Party Caucus- who took it’s name from the astroturf front group funded by billionaires, dedicated to manipulating “Average Joe” dupes into rallying for the agenda of said billionaires while the billionaires ride said dupes to the bank unfettered by the only institution large enough to stop them – our government of “We The People” our Founders fought and died for.
As I wrote in an earlier post titled, “As Expected, Teabaggers 100% Wrong About The Boston Tea Party.”
It is a testament to the power of Fox News propaganda that in spite of the fact that a New York Times poll that revealed Teabaggers to be generally more educated than the general public, they are also hopelessly lost in a world where facts and reality don’t meet. This, of course, is by design of the economic royalists who turn them into useful idiots aggressively rallying to the “causes” that make the American Dream impossible.
As laughable as it is to liberals, Teabaggers describe President Obama as “very liberal.” They also believe that his policies favor “blacks over whites” – which basically means that the Republicans have been very successful with activating their inherent racism.
By design of Faux News, Teabaggers are also upset about “spending” – an outrage conveniently absent during the time Bush squatted in the White House and turned record surpluses into trillions in debt. Of course, he was just practicing Jude Wanniski’s Two Santa Clause theory… you know… spend and bankrupt government while in power and scream about deficits while out of power… its all in the Republican playbook to bankrupt government so they can privatize everything and turn the “Land of the Free” into “The United States of Serfs and Lords” Read more about that here.
If you read this site regularly, you are aware that the true agenda of the Republican Party, “free market” sociopaths and their Teabagging dupes is to transform America into a Neo-Feudal state – where a small, wealthy, ruling elite run government and own everything, a small mercantile class acts as the “middle class” and an EXTREMELY large pool of working poor are free to be exploited unfettered by the pesky government. The Ebenezer Scrooge and Bob Cratchit model is the Republican worldview.
Republicans HATE an Empowered Middle Class
Republicans believe that an empowered middle class is… plain and simple… dangerous. An empowered middle class says, “Hell no, we won’t go” to their stinking corporate oil wars. An empowered middle class knows it has can demand safe working conditions and a living wage. They won’t settle for the crumbs that fall off the tables of their “masters” because they are aware of their value to making the economic wheels turn. An empowered middle class has a seat at the table. This is chaos to Republicans, who can’t abide their mastery of the universe interfered with by the dumb plebeians whose desire to live, grow old, and enjoy some creature comforts gets in the way of unbridled profit. In truth, Republicans hate the poor and middle class… which is why they treat them so disrespectfully by bombarding them with lies and manipulating them to support policies that will, at best, serve to diminish the quality of their life, at worst, literally kill them.
The Corporate Banksters, the Republican propaganda outlets and their Republican operatives in government have built their Teabagging Frankenstein Monsters on revisionist history, fear and lies; safe in the knowledge that they will never turn on their masters – hoping their masters will one day meet them for a beer.
Think about it. This is a TAX “revolt,” sponsored by some of the wealthiest people in the country, that has no idea that their taxes went down under the current administration. They have no idea that the top marginal tax rate in this country was once 91% under that Socialist Eisenhower – the very time the “American Dream” was the zeitgeist of the age.
So, knowing that Teabaggers are ignorant, Thom Hartman gave them a history lesson.
Not surprisingly, the “movement” that gets its name from the Boston Tea Party has absolutely no idea that the Colonist’s committed the famous act in protest of the fact that the East India Company – the world’s first transnational corporation – DID NOT pay taxes.
Most of the members of the British government and were stockholders in the East India Company, so it passed laws granting the Company monopoly on tea sold in the colonies, which exempted it from tea taxes and put local business out of business – much like Walmart does today.
Tragically, for all their supposed education, Teabaggers have the story completely upside-down and believe the revolt was about GOVERNMENT TAXATION when it was actually a revolt against lack thereof.
Thom Hartmann explains it all here.
